Concussion
I decided to write about
concussions, because it is becoming a more common knowledge, but still not
everyone knows or understands: what are they? Why do they cause so much damage?
Do they really affect you that much? Why do they last so long? All these I think
are questions that most people have. I have suffered through a two year lasting
concussion and understand the frustrations of head aches, doctor visits,
medication, school work, memory loss, ect. I have also have experience of
having more than one concussion and what does that mean for the future? How
long does this affect you? Also when going through the concussion or even
watching from an outside perspective, you often wonder is this really happening
or is it all made up? I think I would have benefitted more if someone would
have talked with me and confirmed the feelings that I had. Concussions are so
intricate and hard to explain and frustrating to someone that has never
experienced. With having confirmation from someone that has gone through it already
helps the concussed feel better and may help him or her recover faster.
I find this topic so interesting
and I enjoy telling people about it. I think I can also easily find information
about concussions now that more and more research is being does. Also having
first hand experience I can easily support the claims from how I felt and
further connect them with science. I think my audience might be to anyone that
is going through a concussion currently and also family members or friends that
do not understand fully what is going on and how might they help or have more
grace towards the concussed. My idea about the dialog is possibly going to be
when my coach asked me a bunch of questions that I ended up answering
correctly, but have no recollection of it happening.
I think the topic about concussions is really interesting. I have never had a concussion before, but I imagine that it must be scary and frustrating because you can't remember anything.
ReplyDeleteI have fainted once before, and it was the first time that something like that has ever happened to me. I did hit my head when I fell but the doctor said I didn't have any signs of a concussion. But even then I was frustrated when I couldn't really remember what I was doing before I fainted.
I also think that your story on your experience of a concussion would fit really well with your paper and support the science facts on concussions.
Brooke, this is a good topic to write about. There has been a lot of controversial talk recently about concussions during football games. There has also been much debate about the rule changes about hitting in the NFL. I feel like this would be a good occasion for writing this paper. While not having to talk about football that much, it would be a good way to set up and introduce your topic.
ReplyDeleteI have also had a few concussions in the past and have gone through similar experiences. Thus, I would be really interested in reading your paper. Good Luck!
I am really interested in reading your paper since I suffered a concussion two months ago. It was the only one I ever had so I didnt know what to expect and can therefore see where you are coming from. I think you will have success in writing about this with your firsthand knowledge and interest. It will be interesting to read about the effects it has on your life. A girl I went to camp with, Niki Popyer, might be helpful if you are doing research since she has had 11 concussions due to her intense basketball career.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a good topic to write about and having experience with concussions will be good for understanding it and explaining them and clarifying anything that can be sometimes difficult to understand. I don't know if the you would be willing to go into the direction of bringing the NFL into your paper, but there has been a lot of controversy with concussions and the NFL. Even bringing the NFL up just to introduce your paper could be helpful as said above, but your paper seems like it can have many different directions you can take it, just make sure your ideas are clear.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this will be a good topic to write about especially since you already have a wide base of knowledge about it. Going back through your old thought processes and development of knowledge about your concussion could really help people to understand what the uncertainty and/or fear of this condition might feel like. I think it will be a good combination of personal knowledge and experience and a topic that is still very mysterious to many.
